How is it that our lives would manifest the glory of God to the fullest? A question has ever been asked of "What is the chief and highest end of man?". This is definitely one question that one would come to at one point in one's life. It can never be the case that this question remains unanswered in the soul of every man. For one to live on, this matter is of critical lifeblood to the very existence of oneself.
It is no wonder that it is the first question addressed in the Westminster Larger Catechism. In a brief summary, the Westminster Assembly was established consisting of the ministers from the churches of England, Scotland and Ireland to bring these churches to the nearest conjunction and uniformity in the basic and fundamental matters of the Christian Faith.
"Man's chief and highest end is to Glorify God, and fully to enjoy Him for ever."
~Westminster Larger Catechism, 1A
Scripture was recorded for us that Lord Jesus prayed the following prayer just the moment before He was handed over to be tried, tortured and crucified. In the prayer, He said...
"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world."
~John 17:24
In other words, Jesus intended and prayed that "Our supreme destiny is the enjoyment of God in glory".
Pastor John Piper beautifully re-iterated this in a statement which I continually hold in my heart and has since been one of the life lines that I live by; "God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him". Aptly and justly phrased!
Our creator is glorified
when we enjoy Him,
when we make much of Him for who He is,
when we take delight and pleasure in Him,
when we treasure Him above all,
when we adore and love Him with all of our heart and soul,
when we find our full satisfaction in all that He is!
So How is it then, that our lives would manifest the glory of God to the fullest?
By Enjoying Him most supremely!
