"You realize, don't you,
that you are the temple of God,
and God himself is present in you?
No one will get by with vandalizing God's temple,
you can be sure of that.
God's temple is sacred—
and you, remember, are the temple."
~1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (The Message)
"do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,
whom you have from God?
You are not your own, "
~1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV)
I am at this point of time coming to a greater realisation that taking care of my body is a sacred task and duty. With regret, for the past 1 year or so, that at this moment, I have to say that I have not been taking good care of one part of my body.
I have left the painful scarring itch on my legs which started small and has ever since grown to a significantly large area. Some of my brothers have seen it before, especially those who do sports with me. I thank God for their consistent response whenever they see the state of the itches, some with disgust, some with shock and some with disbelief. Their constant admonishment though insignificant as it may seem, have gone a long way. With the rebuke from the above Scripture, I learnt that I have vandalised the temple of God, my body, in which the holy spirit resides and have since neglected the taking care of God's entrusted property unto me in this aspect. My body includes every single part of it. There is no exception to any part of the body. God meant "the body", the whole body.
Lord, forgive me for my ignorance and negligence in being a good steward of this physical body of mine, though temporal as it is, but still it is your entrusted property you've given me. Grant your wisdom in administering the proper treatment through the doctors that you will lead me to.
"for God bought you with a high price.
So you must honor God with your body."
~1 Corinthians 6:20 (NLT)
