The Belt Of Truth

"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist..."
~Ephesians 6:14a

Paul was writing a letter to the church at Ephesus and towards the end of the letter, he exhorted the church to be ready for spiritual warfare for he knows that every single person is battling in the spiritual realm.

The first piece of the armour that is talked about is the belt of truth using the imagery of a Roman soldier outfit. Roman soldiers wear a linen undergarment as the first layer of the outfit with a woolen one-piece tunic that goes down to the knees over it. The belt is used to fasten the undergarment and the tunic and to hold the sword, dagger and the metal apron to be attached over the loins. The belt is the first piece of the armour to be put on which serves as the foundation of all the armour.

Truth is represented by the belt. The only foundation that we can stand firm on is the Truth. Nothing else can be counted upon besides the Truth.

Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6)

"You will know the truth and the truth will set you free."
~John 8:32

How are you standing? Is truth securely buckled around your waist?
