"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labour for me.
Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell,
I am hard pressed between the two.
My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account.
Convince of this, I know that I will remain
and continue with you cause to glory in Christ Jesus,
Because of my coming to you again."
~Philippians 1:21-26 (ESV)
Paul's vision of life and death is radically different from any other. It ought to be examined and followed after. Death for him is the ultimate gain because of the return to be with Christ. For him, living on earth in the body is for Christ, which means fruitful work for the Lord. It's not difficult for us to see it from his God-given perspectives. However, what's challenging is living it out, especially the 'life on earth'.
Sometimes, I wonder to myself if my labour in the Lord is of any impact. As I reflect then again, it is one thought that the devil can use to discourage and hinder me from obeying God's voice to serve Him. I get that still once in a while and I pray continually that that thought be captured to the obedience of Christ. Many other thoughts similar in intention come bombarding at me.
One question that I ought to ask and reflect constantly is,
How have I been living right here on earth that my living continually be a fruitful labour in the Lord?
