"Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about." "
~ Genesis 22:2 (NIV)
I stared at the 3 words for some time, and finally understood the focus of this verse. This verse, as it seems, brings so much focus on the object of the sacrifice. But that is not it. The actual emphasis is not at all on the object of sacrifice. It is on the very 3 words that I stared at. "Whom you love". The essence of this short phrase drives home the point of who the object of love is. If it could be broken down to simpler terms, the sacrifice is love. This short phrase is the very foundation of God's voice to Abraham. If I were to put it in other words, God was simply asking the important question, "Do you love me more?"
